To create a new product, just navigate to Prodigy -> Add product in the left sidebar menu of the WordPress Admin.
Or if you are editing an existing product navigate to Prodigy -> All Products and then either click on the Title or the Edit link of the product that you want to edit.
The first field to complete is the product title. You will notice that the product title is used to generate the permalink to the product page. You can use the Edit button next to the permalink to customize it if you need to.
The next field is the product description. The product description is created using the WordPress classic editor so you can customize the style and embed additional content.
In the related products section that comes next, you can associate products that are up-sells and cross-sells to the product that you are editing. Up-sell products are generally displayed on the product page to encourage the customer to upgrade to a more expensive product. Cross-sell products are generally displayed on the order confirmation page to encourage the purchase of additional complimentary products.
In the Shipping & Taxes section, you can indicate if the product requires shipping and if it is taxable. If the product requires shipping, you will need to enter the weight and dimensions of the product. If the product is taxable, you should check if it belongs to any of the special tax categories in the dropdown. Certain tax jurisdictions have special rates and exemptions that apply to certain categories of products.
In the next section, you can associate attributes and values to the product. If the product has attributes, just click the Add attribute button and then select the attribute and the values that apply to that product. You can repeat this process for as many attributes as you require.
There are two types of attributes: Those that are purely descriptive and do not require a selection before adding to a cart and those that are considered Options where a selection must be made before adding the product to a cart. Attributes that are Options are used to generate product variants. If the attribute you are adding is an option, check the Use as option checkbox and you will then be asked to confirm the automatic generation of variants.
If you added Options in the attributes section and generated variants, you will see the list of variants in the next section. If you click the dropdown arrow for a variant, you will see the details and certain fields that you can override at the variant level. You can also add a variant image that will override the featured image on the product page when the variant is selected.
In the right column of the edit product page, you will see that you can assign the Categories that the product belongs to. Just check the boxes of all that apply.
Just below that in the right column, you can also assign Tags to the product. Just start typing the name of an existing tag to select it or create a new one.
Next you can set the featured image for the product. This will be the default image that is shown on your shop page and product detail page.
Finally, if you have multiple product images and want to create a gallery, you can add your gallery of images in the next section.
When you are done creating or editing the product, don't forget to click the Update button at the top of the right column to save your changes.
That's everything that you need to know about creating and editing products. In the next article we will look at Searching and Filtering Products.
