Risk analysis

The Prodigy Cloud Platform comes with a powerful Risk Analysis feature that can help prevent fraud losses.  The cost of fraud losses can far exceed the cost of all of the other software and services that an online store requires to get up and running, therefore, it is worth spending the time upfront to set up a robust process for reviewing and approving orders before fulfilling them.

To review the risk analysis of a particular order, just navigate to your Orders List on the left menu and click on the order number of the order that you want to review.  In the right column, you will see the Risk Analysis section as shown below.  This example is a medium risk order, so you can see that the bars are yellow and extend into the medium range.  If this was low risk, you would see a green bar extending into the low range.  If it was high risk, you would see red bars extending into the high range.

If you click on the View link in this section, you will see all of the factors that resulted in the particular risk score for the order.  The example below is for a Low Risk order.  If it were a medium or high risk order, you may see other indicators in addition to those below.

Below are all of the Risk Indicators that you could potentially see and what they mean:

  • Overall Risk Score - this score is a number between 0 and 100 that indicates the probability that the order is fraudulent.  We use this score to assign the Low, Medium, and High risk ratings in the color coded bar in the Risk Analysis section.  A score less than 10 is considered low risk, 10 to 30 is considered medium risk, and greater than 30 is considered high risk.  This indicator will always be shown.

  • IP Address Risk Score - this risk score only pertains to the IP Address and is also a number between 0 and 100 indicating the probability of fraud.  This indicator will always be shown.

  • ISP (Internet Service Provider) - this will show the name and web domain of the ISP that the IP Address is assigned to.  This indicator will always be shown.

  • ISP Type - this indicator will show additional information about the type of ISP (ie. residential, corporate, traveler, etc.).  This indicator will always be shown.

  • Anonymous Proxy - this indicator will only be shown if the ISP has been identified as an anonymous proxy.  This generally represents a higher level of risk.

  • Satellite Provider - this indicator will only be shown if the ISP has been identified as a satellite provider.  This could represent a slightly higher risk, but this type of service is very common in rural areas.

  • Credit card issuer country mismatch - this indicator will only be shown if the credit card issuer country is different than the country in the billing address.

  • Credit card AVS response - this indicator shows the address verification response returned from the card issuer.

  • Credit card CVV response - this indicator shows the CVV response from the credit card issuer indicating if the code entered from the back of the card was a match.

  • High risk email - this indicator will only be shown if the email address used on the order has been flagged as a high risk email address.

  • Shipping address distance from IP - this indicator shows the distance between the entered shipping address and the IP address location.

  • Shipping address distance from billing - this indicator show the distance between the shipping address and billing address on the order.

  • High risk shipping address - this indicator will only be shown if shipping address entered for the order has been flagged as high risk.

  • Shipping postal code / city mismatch - this indicator will only be shown if the postal code that was entered does not match the city entered for the shipping address.

  • Shipping country mismatch from IP - this indicator will only be shown if the shipping address country does not match the country of the IP address.

  • Billing address distance from IP - this indicator shows the distance between the entered billing address and the IP address location.

  • Billing postal code / city mismatch - this indicator will only be shown if the postal code that was entered does not match the city entered for the billing address.

  • Billing country mismatch from IP - this indicator will only be shown if the billing address country does not match the country of the IP address.

Note:  This Risk Analysis feature is only active for stores that are in Live Mode.  In development mode the risk analysis section will not show any data.
