The Product General Details section includes the basic information and storefront organization settings for a product.
In this article, you will learn how to edit:
To get started, navigate to Products → All Products
Then, either click on an existing product's name, or click Add Product in the top right corner.
General Information
The General Information section includes the product's title, description, and Product Vendor ID.
Title
The Title field is the name of the product.
This field is required when creating a product and is displayed to customers on the storefront.
Description
The Description field allows you to add product details that will appear on the storefront product page.
The description editor supports rich text formatting, including text styles, links, and lists. You can also use the code vie option to edit the description HTML directly.
Product Vendor ID
The Product Vendor ID field is mainly used for PromoStandards products.
PromoStandards products are products imported or connected through supported promotional product vendors. These connections can help keep vendor-specific product information, variant data, and product identifiers aligned between Prodigy and the vendor.
Most products will not need to have this field edited manually.
If a product is imported from a PromoStandards vendor, the Product Vendor ID and related vendor information are typically set automatically. However, if you add new variants to a PromoStandards product later, you may also need to update the vendor information at the variant level.
To edit this field, click Edit Details.
From the Edit Details modal, you can manually select an activated vendor and enter the Product Vendor ID.
You can also click Manage Vendors to activate supported vendors for the store.
Supported vendors include:
- PCNA
- HIT Promotional Products
- Peerless Umbrella Co.
- Gemline
- Cutter & Buck
- S&S Activewear
- SanMar
To learn more about managing vendors, check out the PromoStandards article in the Apps settings.
Note: For PromoStandards products, the product-level vendor information and variant-level vendor part information both need to match the vendor's product data. Product-level changes may also require updates at the variant level.
Visibility
The Visibility section controls whether the product is visible to customers on the storefront.
The toggle displays the product's current visibility status.
- Visible means the product can appear on the storefront.
- Hidden means the product does not appear to customers and is only available in the backend.
When a product is hidden, customers will not see it while browsing or searching the storefront.
Note: Product visibility controls the product as a whole. Individual variants can also be hidden, but variant visibility is managed separately and is covered in the Variants article.
Tags
The Tags section allows you to assign one or more tags to a product.
Tags can be used to organize products for storefront experiences. For example, you can add a tag such as Featured and then create a storefront product carousel that displays products with that tag.
To add a tag, type the tag name into the Tags field.
You can select an existing tag or create a new one by typing it into the field.
A product can have multiple tags.
Tags are applied immediately and once they are saved, you will see a notice in the top right.
To remove a tag, click the x next to the tag name.
Categories
The Categories section allows you to assign the product to one or more product categories.
Categories help organize products on the storefront and can be used for navigation, filtering, and product grouping.
To edit a product's categories, click Edit Categories.
A modal will open where you can select from existing categories.
If you select a category that is a child category, then the product will automatically be a part of both the child category that you selected and all of its parent categories. Once you have selected your products appropriate categories, press Add Categories.
If you need to create a new category, navigate to Products → Categories. (You can learn more about creating and managing categories in the Product Categories article).
Category changes, like most fields, require saving the product before leaving the page.
Images
The Images section allows you to upload and manage product images.
Product images appear on the storefront and help customers view the product before purchasing.
Uploaded images must follow these requirements:
- Maximum file size: 2 MB per image
- Allowed formats: jpg, jpeg, png, and gif
- Up to 10 images can be uploaded at one time
There is no fixed limit on the total number of images a product can have.
Note: This image section is for uploading all of a products images. In the Manage Variants section, you can configure certain images to appear when certain variant options are selected. (For example you can connect some of these photos to the blue variants, so when customers select blue from the color options, they'll only see the blue photos).
Uploading Images
To upload images, click the plus tile in the Images section.
You can upload multiple images at once, up to 10 images per upload.
Reordering Images
When you hover over an image tile, you'll see three options. One of them is a drag icon that lets you reorder your images.
Simply your drag this image to whichever position you'd like. The first image in the list will appear larger, as it becomes the main product image. The main product image is what customers will see when primarily in product catalogues before selecting a specific variant. The order of images here is also what will appear to customers in the image gallery when they click on a product before selecting a variant.
Editing an Image
To edit an image, hover over the image and click the pencil icon.
This opens a modal where you can crop the image, restore to 3x4, or replace it with a different image.
Deleting Images
To delete an individual image, hover over the image and click the trash icon.
To delete multiple images at once, click Delete Images.
A modal will open where you can select multiple images, then choose whether to delete the selected images or cancel.
Multiple Crop
Click the Multiple Crop button to crop multiple uploaded images in the same way.
You'll then see a modal window where you can apply a crop and select the images to which you'd like to apply the crop.
This is useful when several product images need the same crop dimensions or positioning.
That's everything you need to know about Product General Details. In the next article, we will cover Product Personalization.
